5 Warning Signs That It's Time to Replace Your Couch

It may seem like knowing the time when to replace your couch is pretty straightforward until you’re torn whether to replace it or not. Sure, a fallen couch arm may signify a replacement, but for some, a repair would still work until it falls off again. Next thing they know, they’re spending a lot of money already for a couch that is already up for a replacement.

A couch’s average life is between 7 and 15 years. Don’t worry, though; there’s no need for a couch’s arm to fall off for you to consider a replacement; there are warning signs you can keep an eye on, such as:

1. It Doesn’t Fit the Space Anymore

One of the first few things that go inside a house is the couch. It may seem like it’s the best idea then, or possibly, it’s a hand-me-down that you initially planned to use temporarily until it becomes permanent.

As years go by, you add new stuff to your home; probably you had some renovations done or even expanded your family, and you will come to realize that the couch doesn’t fit the space anymore. By then, whether it’s too small or big for the room, it’s best to replace it instead of moving it from one room to another. By doing so, you can wear out the couch quickly or worse, you could even damage the frame.

2. It Gives Creaking Noises

Anything that is meant to be seated on shouldn’t give off creaking noises, and that includes your couch. When you start to hear squeaking, creaking, or even popping every time someone sits on it, then it only means the couch has sustained structural damage already.

These noises potentially mean that the joints are weak, which is very common for older furniture built from hardwoods and screws. The cost of having this repaired can be close to the price of a new sofa. Hence, it’s more practical to get a new one, unless the couch is a cherished piece of furniture that’s been passed down for many generations.

3. It’s Itchy

Your couch can be a breeding ground for germs if it’s not cleaned and maintained properly. However, there are times when, even if you religiously clean your couch, it now carries a faint smell of odours that you can’t shake off, along with the itchiness. Even if your couch’s fabric isn’t scratched, it’s possible for bed bugs to live in it, and when you see these pesky bugs there, it’s time for a new couch.

4. It’s Time for a Change

Are you planning to redecorate and realize that your couch will no longer complement the room’s new theme? If that’s the case, by all means, replace it, especially if you’ve used it enough already! Home styles and your tastes change over time, so there’s nothing wrong if you choose to replace your couch to be able to implement the style that you want.
